How To Qualify for PTSD Workers Compensation in Minnesota

If you have been hurt on the job, you may develop PTSD. Under specific circumstances, employees can qualify for a PTSD workers compensation claim in Minnesota. PTSD workers compensation in Minnesota is limited to PTSD related to an injury obtained on the job. One exception is for first responders who can obtain compensation due to PTSD related to seeing severe injuries and death on the job.

PTSD Workers Compensation

If you work in a dangerous job, are injured at work and develop PTSD as a result of your injury, you may qualify for PTSD workers compensation claim in Minnesota. Below are some of the requirements for workers compensation.

  • A physical injury component is required. PTSD resulting from stress while on the job does not qualify for workers compensation.
  • PTSD symptoms must have lasted longer than one month.
  • PTSD must be diagnosed by a licensed psychologist or physician using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders criteria.
  • The injury must have occurred on or after October 1, 2013.

PTSD Workers Compensation for First Responders

If you are a first responder and your PTSD occurred on or after January 1, 2019, you may qualify for PTSD workers compensation claim in Minnesota for first responders. A new law that took effect on January 1, 2019, covers emotional and mental trauma for first responders as they often see serious injuries and accidents that cause death and are more prone to job-related PTSD.
