In many cases, physical therapy is also required for best results. The exercises prescribed by the therapist will often include stretches that will loosen stiff muscles. The effect of this loosening can cause improvements not only in the hips, but in the rest of the body as well. This is because muscle groups that are near a source of pain often tense up in an attempt to compensate for the perceived damage. That tension can cause those muscles to become stiff and painful as well. The effect can therefore cascade until it includes parts that are very far from the original trouble spot. Getting the main problem areas loose again can break this cycle and provide an amazing reduction in pain levels.
