Choosing the Right Body for Your Service Trucks

If you routinely send work crews to job sites, you need functional and dependable service trucks. Also, not all service vehicles are the same. For example, some trucks have Reading truck bodies while others are OEM trucks. Some have better materials than others and offer special features to make life easier for your workers. Here are some important things to look for when you shop for new service trucks.

Tailgate Features

A tailgate doesn’t seem like a special feature, but it is an important part of your truck. For example, crew members often open end gates and use them as steps to enter the truck bed. Workers use end gates to sit on during breaks and lunch periods. Look for a truck body with heavy-duty end gates and here are some important features to consider:

Diamond tread on the inside – many standard eng gates are smooth on the inside. Smooth surfaces are easy to slip on and could cause an injury. Diamond tread forces water away when pressurized and provides an area with a firm footing for safety.

Oversized – Many end gates are only eleven inches tall. This height does not accommodate most work boots. However, fourteen-inch gates (like you find on Reading truck bodies) offer enough room for stepping safely. Taller end gates help cargo ride smoother also.

Heavy-duty construction – Double sided 14 gauge steel makes strong end gates.

Powder Coating

High wear areas of your truck body need more protection than paint. Powder coating wears much longer because they use electrostatic methods, instead of simply applying paint to the surface.

Hardware

Quality bodies (like Reading truck bodies) come with heavy-duty hardware made from stainless steel. This keeps hinges and latches from rusting and corroding. Also, the hinges are fully adjustable to allow for wear.
