If you supply painting contractors with the right kind of painting tools, you may need to offer a wide range of products and equipment. For example, some projects are easier when you use a roller with a phenolic core. In fact, some types of rollers are not recommended for the kind of work they get used for. So what is a phenolic roller cover? Here is information to give you a better understanding.

What is Phenolic?

A special brown paper gets coated with a resin, and more paper layers get injected with other resins. Some resins have thermosetting properties while others are melamine type resins. The resin coated paper gets heated and put under pressure to make a solid sheet.

The phenolic sheet is dyed the desired color it gets light cured. This curing process makes the material resistant to ultraviolet light, and it creates a very durable phenolic roller cover or core.

Phenolic Properties

Phenolic materials are highly resistant to moisture. They are also resistant to a lot of solvents and chemicals. This makes them very good for phenolic roller cover or core materials. For example, if you are applying a strong sealer with a paint roller, you need something which can stay together and not dissolve. Here is an example.

Suppose you use a standard roller to apply sealer or an epoxy product. A typical roller has a cardboard core. This core is good for painting and does a good job. However, most sealers will soak through the roller and into the core. Standard cardboard easily saturates, and the roller may come apart after using it for a short time.
