Common Myths About Heavy Duty Truck Parts

If you are in the market for affordable heavy truck parts in Texas, you likely want to be sure that you get your money’s worth. There are many common misconceptions that can get in the way of you doing just that. Aftermarket parts are non-standardized, which makes that situation even more difficult. Learning what some of the myths are, so you can avoid treating them as reality, can be a step in the right direction.

The first thing to know is that remanufactured parts and rebuilt parts are quite different. When a part is rebuilt, a technician is going to take the part and replace any damaged parts. When a part is remanufactured, the part is taken apart entirely, and different parts are sent to different people to make sure they all work well. So, with a rebuilt part, you get back the same part while with a remanufactured part, that isn’t the case.

Next up, many people are under the believe that truck parts need to be replaced only by the dealer. The truth is that many of the parts available in aftermarket are just as well-made as those available from the dealer. They also can be less expensive. Of course, there are endless variations between parts and it’s important to choose a supplier who brings in only excellent parts.

Fleets owners can take to the Internet to find their own parts, but this isn’t always the best idea. The trouble is that finding these inexpensive parts from who knows where may not have the same testing going into them as those coming from a reputable manufacturer. In some cases, you might get lucky but in others you might get a part that doesn’t work and have no recourse. It’s better to source parts from a trusted person who knows this part of the industry inside and out.

Another misconception is that price is the only thing that really matters. That’s not true at all. Sure, price matters, but it’s not the sole thing you can rely on. In fact, buying something that is quite a bit cheaper than other parts of the same type can mean it will not last as long. You’ll end up replacing it while the alternative might have lasted months or years longer.
